Fortunately, their efforts were short lived. One of their skeptics was a group of kids who were obsessed with the history of the Moon. The group’s ad was a bit on the nose, but they were well equipped to take on the competition.

Aside from the legal wrangling that resulted in the aforementioned mess, the IDC’s moon-mapping campaign was not the only company to lay claim to the moon. Indeed, the same company’s spokesman was arrested for hawking a series of small scale moon hoaxes.
